At Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, we believe in the unlimited potential of everyone in our diverse community. We believe that a caring well-balanced student will be motivated to become a global citizen who is inspired to take action.

Attendance Policies

Morning Drop-Off

7:45 a.m. – Breakfast bell rings; students may enter the cafeteria
7:53 a.m. – Classroom doors open
8:00 a.m. – Attendance taken. Instruction begins
After 8:00 a.m. – Students are tardy and must be checked in at the office by a guardian.
- If students do not check in you may receive automatic attendance calls and/or text messages generated by the PPS attendance software. The school office does not initiate or control these messages.

Afternoon Pick-Up

School ends at 2:30 p.m.
Students must be picked up no later than 2:40 p.m.
After 2:40 p.m., emergency contacts will be called

The school does not provide before or after-school supervision; therefore, it is the responsibility of families to make after school arrangements for their student(s).

Early Pick-Up Policy

If you need to pick your student up early, please go into the Main Office to sign them out. Once you’ve arrived, office staff will call your child down. Depending on where your student is, this may take a few minutes—please plan accordingly. Students will not be called to the office until an authorized adult is present.
Students will not be released between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. without prior arrangement. To arrange an early pick-up during this time, please email your student’s teacher and CC mlkjroffice@pps.net to ensure they are in the office at the designated time, or call 503-916-6456.
All arrangements for pick-up between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. must be made by 10:00 AM the day of.
